Men's Team

Sam Hiss

Head Coach

The Mountainside Lacrosse Men’s team is excited to announce the hiring of our new head coach, Sam Hiss!

Coach Hiss was introduced to lacrosse in his hometown of South Bend, Indiana. After being recruited in High School, He attended Aurora University in Illinois from 2014-2018 and competed on their NCAA DIII Men’s Lacrosse Team. Due to the impact he had on the field, Coach Hiss became the Aurora’s starting LSM and was awarded MLC ALL-Conference accolades every season he played. In 2018, his coaches and teammates voted him a team captain. During Coach Hiss’s 2014-2018 tenure at Aurora, the Spartans Men’s would become the reigning MLC Conference Champions, winning the title 4 years in a row. During that time the team also had 4 NCAA DIII Playoff appearances, two of which they made it to the Sweet 16.

After graduating, Coach Hiss began coaching at Aurora as an assistant coach from 2018 – 2022. During that time, he assisted the new head coach with rebuilding Aurora’s program and team. His primary responsibility was as the Spartan’s defensive coordinator. He also assisted with the player development of specialized positions, recruiting efforts, practice planning, breaking down film, etc.

In 2020 Coach Hiss was hired as an Illinois State director for True Lacrosse in order to pursue coaching full-time. He managed all 7 of the True IL Black AA State Teams and led his program's on-field development of over 140 players. In August of 2022, Coach Hiss moved to Oregon to lead the creation of a new True Lacrosse Program here in Portland.

He is now the Program Director for True Oregon which aims to help the sport of lacrosse grow in Oregon. He wants nothing more than to be a resource for any player who is passionate about developing their skills and improving their game!

Please join us in welcoming Coach Hiss along with his wife MacKenzie to the Mountainside Lacrosse Family!
